"Ancestors for Kamala" is a series of artworks that pays homage to the Black ancestors who arrived in the Western Hemisphere as slaves. The series is a reminder that the dream of seeing a woman of African descent become president is now within reach at long last. Through these images, I hope to inspire viewers to reflect on the legacy of Black people and the importance of representation in positions of power. I also hope to remind all people that it doesn’t matter whether African slaves were shipped as cargo to Brazil, Jamacia, Haiti, or the United States, what unites us is the fact that we are all African descendants who arrived under the yoke of oppression.
